I enjoy a number of perks as executive producer of digital media (at my day job). Most significantly, I get to work with some fantastically talented people, like Scott Owyen and Geoff Ogle. Not too long ago, Scott, Geoff and I were recognized by The Communicator Awards organization with an Award of Distinction for Best Inspirational Song and Best Production of an Original Song, This is a great honor and icing on the cake when you consider the following:

  1. Scott is an amazing songwriter and guitarist and anytime you are around him, you are inspired to reach farther and give more. No one is more gracious and trusting.
  2. Geoff is a multidimensional composer, arranger, producer who knows how to orchestrate resources and talent to realize powerfully compelling music.
  3. I get to play “music mogul” by putting these two together in the studio with Glen Lorbecki of Glen Sound. Glen lays down the phattest sound anywhere.

All in a day’s work? Yes, but I don’t consider this kind of fun ordinary. It’s a privilege. How many companies can you think of that have their own cool song? There aren’t many.

So how does something like this get started? What triggers an opportunity like this? Well, it starts with vision. Which leads squarely to the mind of Tom Bligh, long time mentor and friend. Tom saw the opportunity from the beginning. He gave some strategic encouragement to Scott then planted some seeds in my brain. Next thing you know, there’s a song demo in my inbox, and I’m negotiating record deals with Geoff. We’ve now recorded a number of songs including Genie Blue which won the award.

I am very thankful to have the opportunity to work with these guys. It is truly fun to have created something we are all proud of. Getting an award is just icing on the cake.
